The Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC) of
Mississauga was founded in 1982 by Mayor Hazel McCallion
with a vision to empower youth across Mississauga, and inspire change in our
community. Members of MYAC are dynamic, dedicated, and have the opportunity to
engage in open and direct dialogue with their peers on matters relating to the
needs and concerns of youth. In particular, not only are members able to
actively participate, discuss, and deliberate on issues that matter, but also,
aim to develop solutions to address the issues that confront them. In addition,
members of MYAC are given the opportunity to plan community projects and
volunteer at various City-wide events throughout the year. Youth who decide to
become involved with MYAC will enjoy the opportunity to turn their ideas into
actions by using the City of Mississauga's resources to make a difference,
advocate action, create community, and most importantly, unite youth all around
Mississauga.
Mississauga is a family of diverse individuals made up of
adults and youth. We want to be able to provide opportunities to those who will
be taking care of our family; youth. It is our belief that the youth of
Mississauga should be learning how to speak up against the issues which affect
them and the people around them. We believe that youth are capable of making
positive impacts in their communities and should be recognized and respected
for what they have contributed to their community. In order to succeed in our
vision, the purpose of MYAC is:1. To provide the youth of Mississauga with the opportunity to develop solutions to the issues that affect our city;
2. To work with organizations in Mississauga to raise awareness about issues that our city faces;
3. To encourage youth to be involved in making the community a
better place.
