Join the MYAC mailing list!
Youth Task Force (YTF) is a unique sub-committee with a mandate to raise awareness of issues important to youth and to advocate for change in a positive direction. The Task Force consists of 16 members, representing high schools from all over Mississauga, and are selected by the Chairperson and Director of Government Affairs from a handful of applicants. At the beginning of every term, MYAC general members vote on what issue the Task Force should deal with.
Year one of the Task Force was resounding success! Over 200 volunteers joined forces to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS in their schools, handing out over 2000 informative brochures to students in 5 high schools across Mississauga.
The topic of the second Task Force Term was selected to be Violent Youth Behavior (relating to drug abuse and aggressive violence). To promote the awareness of violent youth behavior in Mississauga, MYTF organized a Youth Concert at City Centre, ending a 6-month-long campaign titled Silence the Violence. Over 6000 youth from all across the City of Mississauga were involved in the 6-month-long campaign. Pictures from the event are available, and the link will be posted soon.
Please note that the official report for the Silence the Violence Campaign is now online. Click here to download a copy.
The application process for the 2009-2010 Year is also now closed.
